Just over a year ago I started training to just complete the Bude triathlon and it has changed my life. Yesterday I finally got to race in it and I went and won it. First person from Bude to have ever won the race.
Crossing that finish line was so emotional. That was the first race I have done where I truly left it all out on the course.
Swim was perfect started middle pack and by the turn around I was out in front.
Coming out of the water I had a very substantial gap.
T2 fast but not rushed.

Onto the bike in a perfect position leading the race and knew I was fully in control.
Less than 2mins into the bike a car pulls out in front of me and I smash straight through the wing mirror into the front panel over my handle bars. Adrenaline fully kicked in at this point.
Checked I wasn’t dead and jumped back on little bit shaken up and very sore I went for it. Bike time wasn’t what I was hoping for but still kept me out in front and wow I was hurting.
T2 fast maybe a bit hot into the dismount line.
That run was hard. My running legs were there and felt strong but running after a crash is hard, hard, hard work everything was telling me to stop and walk but I got into some sort of zone and just kept ticking over. Not a record breaking 5km but enough to get me around for the win. Coming over than finish with so many friends and family there cheering me on to a win was something I will never forget
